Thomas Birch Freeman
Project Development Narrative
I have learned an incredible amount this semester while working on my satellite project for One More Voice on Thomas Birch Freeman. I have been able to open my mind to what digital humanities work is all about and why it is so important.Â
Throughout the creation of my satellite project, I have kept two main things in mind in regards to guiding my work/development. The first aspect is creativity. While building my project, I wanted to make sure that my creative side is able to come through and give people the opportunity to really enjoy learning about Thomas Birch Freeman. I believe that this is incredibly important because the more people interact with the content within my project, the more they will truly be able to learn and retain the life of Thomas Birch Freeman. I believe that his story is extremely important and the process of getting to know that story has been not only interesting but in a certain sense inspiring as well.Â
The second thing that I have been focusing on while making my project is keeping it simple. I have chosen to do this in order to encourage people to be more open to digesting the information presented with my project. Many times I have found that people, including myself, are intimidated by projects that are only a bunch of words and hard to understand. My idea behind keeping my project simple has kept this in mind and has strongly influenced my approach each step of the way. I feel as if the easier/faster it is for people to read through my site and the information presented within it, the more likely that a person would want to continue exploring the information that I am presenting.Â
To add to the simplicity of my project, I also made it a point to make it more visual. With the implementation of a story map/timeline, I think that people will be able to learn a lot in a short amount of time. As a person who is more of a visual learner, I wanted to make sure that others who enjoy learning this way will have the chance to do so within my project. Also, I really do think that the only way to do justice to the life of Thomas Birch Freeman and the incredible adventures that he has been on is to visually take in where he has been and what his goals were in each location.
